Vehicle Description

This 1959 Porsche 356A is one of approximately 1,330 Convertible D examples produced for the single model year. The numbers-matching 1600S flat-four has been rebuilt to displace 1,720cc, and the exterior was refinished in its factory-delivered silver metallic approximately three decades ago. The black interior is complemented by a black soft top with a matching boot, and equipment includes 15″ wheels with chromed hubcaps, rear jump seats, floor mats, and green-letter VDO gauges. The Convertible D was introduced to replace the Speedster, and coachwork for all examples was provided by Karosseriewerke Drauz of Heilbronn, Germany. This example was delivered new in Silver Metallic and was refinished approximately 30 years ago. Features include a black soft top and matching boot as well as a single decklid grille, and the brightwork has been refreshed. The paintwork and exterior trim are shown up close in the photo gallery below.Ventilated 15″ steel wheels wear chrome-finished hubcaps with colored Porsche crests. The interior features bucket seats up front and rear jump seats, and the seating surfaces were reupholstered in black in May 2021, at which point the headrests were added. The peppered gray carpeting is protected by Coco Mats front and rear, and the selling dealer had the dashboard refurbished by Paterek Brothers Inc of Chatham, New Jersey. The ivory-color steering wheel sits ahead of green-letter VDO instrumentation including a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, a 120-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and an analog clock in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 21k miles. The 1600S Type 616/2 flat-four was reportedly rebuilt with a big-bore kit in 2016 and now displaces 1,720cc.All prices are plus tax, title, licensing and a $200 negotiable documentary service fee. Vehicles are subject to availability.
